Help On Certification
To go directly to the certification request page click the link below.
Alternatively you may wish to read about the process before doing so:
The secure SpecIntell site is protected against unauthorised access by a number of security measures.
The first and most important is protection by certificate. No computer has the ability to access the SpecIntell secure site without a security certificate being installed on the computer attempting access.
How does
it work ?
New users of the site must request a security certificate from
SpecIntell using the link at the foot of this page or the one above. Clicking the link will take
you to another web page which allows the process of certification request to
take place. Briefly in the Select a task area click the 'Request
a certificate' link. In the page following click the 'Web
Browser Certificate' option. In the final page fill in the form
which is offered and finally press the submit button. Your certification
request will normally be responded to within 48 hours.
What
happens then ?
After you have made the request the certification authority
(SpecIntell) will either grant or refuse the certificate. Once the certificate
has been issued you must return to the
'Request Certificate' link and this time click the 'View
the status of a pending certificate request' link. This will take
you to another page listing the pending certificate request you have made.
Clicking this link will tell you one of three things.
1. That you have been refused the certificate request you
have made.
2. That the certificate request is still pending.
3. That the request has been granted.
In respect of option 3 you are then taken to another page which allows
the installation of the granted certificate to your computer. Once this
has been done and installed you may then access the secure site using this
computer.
How many
certificates can I have ?
There is no limit to the number of certificates which we can issue to
a club or organisation. We do recommend however that you only have sufficient
for your needs to work the system efficiently, for instance one in the
ground safety officers office and one in the match control office will normally
suffice, this ultimately is a matter for you. The first certificate issued
is free and there is a small charge for each certificate issued thereafter.
Can I use
the certificate on another computer ?
No - absolutely not. The issued certificate can only be used on
the computer which requested it in the first place, the certificate once issued
is encoded to the requesting computer specifically and will not work on any
other computer.
What
should I do if the computer is ever stolen ?
Before you join SpecIntell you will be required to read and sign that
you have read, understood and agree to our terms and conditions. One of the most
important things you agree to is to inform SpecIntell about the theft of any
computer to which a certificate has been issued. The reason for this is to allow
us to revoke the certificate which we issued to that computer preventing the
thief or indeed anyone else who may come into contact with the computer from
accessing the secure site.
Can I
have a certificate on a laptop computer ?
Yes we do allow this, however the issue to a laptop represents an
increased risk to security of the site inasmuch as a laptop is easier to steal
than one in a building. The need to inform SpecIntell of the theft or loss
of a laptop is also therefore very important as is the need to know where such a
laptop is at all times. It's also important that you do not leave computers
logged onto the site unattended where other people who do not have granted
access can interrogate the site whilst you are away from it.
Why is
this so important ?
As a user of this system you have responsibilities under the Data
Protection Act, not only for the accuracy and relevance of the data
you record but also for the protection of that data from people who do not have
the right to see it and also for the protection of data input by other users of
the system. For full information concerning issues relating to the Data
Protection Act please click the following link. Data

How
should I inform SpecIntell ?
In the first instance this should be done immediately by telephone as
soon as you are aware of the computers theft or loss, you can do this by phoning
:
1. Steve Medcalf on 07958 589787
2. Jim Doherty on 07958 702839
3. Eddie Curtis on 07901 915166
In the second instance we would also require written notification either by
E-Mail or by normal post.
